Jennifer S. Altman is a freelance photojournalist based in New York City. Jennifer’s current clients include The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Business Week and USA Today.
Jennifer’s work has been published in various national and international publications such as Time, US News and World Report, Stern, Paris Match, Der Spiegel, The Wall Street Journal, The New Yorker, New York Magazine, The New York Daily News, Newsday, The Village Voice, The Star-Ledger, Elle, The New York Post, Associated Press, Press Association, NBA Entertainment, US Weekly, People, Town & Country, TV Guide, CAP Today and The Financial Times. Jennifer’s corporate work includes: Washington Mutual, Nokia, AT&T, Home Depot, NIKE, Heineken, Amstel Light, Microsoft, Sony, The New York City Rescue Mission, Merrill Lynch and NYC & Company.
Jennifer is the principal photographer for the book The Color Purple, A Memory Book of The Broadway Musical. She is also a photo-editing consultant on special projects for UNICEF and teaches photojournalism seminars at UNICEF USA.
While studying abroad in London, Jennifer got her start as a photography intern at London News Service. She then interned for The Riverdale Press in the Bronx, NY, where she grew up. After becoming a photo editor at The New York Post and The Associated Press, she moved to New London, CT to become a photography intern at The Day. When she moved back to New York City, Jennifer became a contract photographer for The New York Daily News for four years. She then worked for Newsday as a contract photographer for two years.
Jennifer is the recipient of many awards from The National Press Photographer’s Pictures of the Year contest, The New York Press Photographers Association, The Associated Press, The Front Page Awards from the Newswomen’s Club of NY and The National Newspapers Association. Her work has been on exhibit at the Forbes Gallery, The Smithsonian and The National Geographic Building. Jennifer also has images from 9/11 on permanent exhibit at The NYC Police Museum and at the 9/11 WTC Tribute Center. She is sponsored by Nikon and was featured in articles by Nikon World Magazine and Nikon Pro web magazine.
